Rescue Plans Out but New BBU Chairman In

At the BBU Board Meeting held in Ruhpolding on Fri 03 Feb “Rescue Plans” for the very future of the BBU were presented by Board Member Carl Carrier, and British Biathlon Rifle Club Director Gordon Seaton.

Regrettably the Board concluded that neither business plan offered sufficient financial stability and that, as presented, neither plan was viable. Areas of improvement and cooperation were suggested, but as things stood the Board would not be able to recommend either plan to any of the BBU’s stakeholders.

The Board thus invited Major General (Retired) Rob Weighill to join The Board and to take over from the Interim Chairman (Eddy Lowe) as Chairman from 20 Feb 17. Rob, who had been the only candidate for the vacant Chairman’s role (advertised on this website on 14 Aug 16), accepted the invitation and is now attempting to form a new Board and recruit support staff to take the BBU into the next decade. At an Open Forum Q&A session in Ruhpolding on Sat 04 Feb he outlined his concept to many of the athletes attending the British Championships, He has since contacted a number of interested parties and Facebook Members and a further statement on the “Way Ahead” is expected before, or upon publication of the AGM Agenda on approx. 18 May 17.

To achieve a degree of stability during a phase of transition, the three Directors (Mark Goodson, Eddy Lowe & Col Adrian Thurgood) who announced on 01 Jan 17 their decision to resign on 30 Apr 17, have agreed to stay until after the AGM, and will now leave on 30 Jun 17.  Following legal & financial advice, the 2016 – 17 Financial Year has been extended by 2 months until 30 Jun 17. Historically there are virtually no transactions in June, so the financial report that will be submitted at the AGM should be very similar to the future end of year report and figures.

Member Elected Director Carl Carrier will remain on the Board after 30 Jun and has also been seeking ideas and support on behalf of the new Chairman. If you are still, or are newly interested in helping “The Future”, please Email Carl Carrier: carlocarrier@gmail.com.
